Keep pinned tabs open

Pinned tabs are never closed by a schedule, even when their link matches.

Pinned tabs are the small tabs at the left of your tab bar that you keep open all day, such as email or a calendar. With Do not close pinned tabs, a close schedule leaves them alone even when their address matches the link. Everything else that matches still closes on time.

How keeping pinned tabs open works

Do not close pinned tabs is an option on each close schedule. When the schedule runs, Tab Scheduler finds the tabs that match your Website Link. Before it closes a tab, it checks whether the tab is pinned. Pinned tabs are skipped, and the other matching tabs close as usual.

If you leave the option unticked, a pinned tab that matches is closed like any other tab. The Close All Scheduled Link button above the schedule list follows the same rule.

To pin a tab in Google Chrome, right-click it in the tab bar and choose Pin.

When to use keeping pinned tabs open

  • Keep the main inbox. Your webmail is pinned, but links open more mail tabs during the day. A close schedule for *mail.example.com* at 18:00 removes the extra tabs and keeps the pinned one.
  • A clean slate each night. Enter only * to close all tabs at 23:00 with Every Day. Your pinned tabs stay, so the browser stays open with them.
  • Focus hours with music. Close *youtube.com* at 9:00 on weekdays, but keep a pinned playlist from the same site playing.

Good to know about keeping pinned tabs open

  • The option is saved per schedule. Tick it on every close schedule that should spare your pinned tabs.
  • Only pinned tabs are protected. To also keep the tab you are looking at, tick Do not close active tab.
  • The option is not available with the On Browser Open frequency, which only opens websites.
  • Your computer must be awake and the browser must be running at the close time. Power Mode keeps the computer awake.
