Keep the active tab open

The tab you are using right now is never closed by a schedule.

A close schedule can close a tab while you are still reading or typing in it. With Do not close active tab, the schedule skips the tab you are looking at and closes only the other matching tabs. It suits schedules that tidy up in the background while you work.

How keeping the active tab open works

When the schedule runs, Tab Scheduler finds the tabs that match your Website Link. Before it closes each one, it checks whether that tab is the active tab, which is the tab currently shown in its window. The active tab is skipped and the other matching tabs are closed.

Each browser window has its own active tab. If you have two windows open, the tab shown in each of them is kept.

For schedules that repeat, such as every 10 minutes or every day, a skipped tab can close at a later run if it is no longer the active tab by then. A one-time schedule does not try again.

The Close All Scheduled Link button above the schedule list follows the same rule.

When to use keeping the active tab open

  • Short visits, no lost reading. Close *news.example.com* with Custom Minute and 15 in Close Minute. News tabs you forgot about are closed, but the article you are reading right now stays.
  • End of the workday. Close *app.example.com* at 18:00 on weekdays. If you are still finishing something in that app, your current tab stays open and the rest close.
  • Night clean-up. Enter only * at 23:00 to close every tab except the one in front of you, so the browser stays open.

Good to know about keeping the active tab open

  • Pinned tabs are not protected by this option. Tick Do not close pinned tabs as well if you want to keep them.
  • The option is saved per schedule, so you can use it only where you need it.
  • Your computer must be awake and the browser must be running at the close time. Power Mode keeps the computer awake.
