With Open URL In New Window, a scheduled website opens in a browser window of its own instead of as a new tab in the window you are using. This keeps meetings, dashboards and timers apart from your other tabs. It is also handy when you want to move a page to a second screen.

How opening in a new window works

At the scheduled time, Tab Scheduler creates a new, normal browser window with your website in it. When Auto Focus Tab is on for the schedule, the new window comes to the front. When it is off, the window opens without taking focus.

Each run opens a new window. A schedule that repeats, such as Every 30 Minute, opens another window every time. To avoid a stack of windows, also tick Refresh tab if URL is already open. Tab Scheduler then reloads the website if it is already open, and only opens a new window when it is not.

Open URL In New Window, Open in incognito mode and Open URL in Background cannot be used together. When you tick one of them, the other two are switched off.

How to open a scheduled website in a new window

1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
2. Enter the website in Website Link, for example meet.example.com/team.
3. Choose how often it should run in Select Frequency.
4. Set Schedule Type to Open a website, or to Open, then close if the website should close again later.
5. Fill in the open fields, such as Open Time, and the close fields if you chose Open, then close.
6. Under More options, tick Open URL In New Window. If the schedule repeats, tick Refresh tab if URL is already open as well.
7. Click Save Schedule.

When to use opening in a new window

• Daily stand-up. Choose Every Week, tick Monday to Friday in Open on days and set Open Time to 9:55. The meeting link appears in its own window, away from your work tabs.
• A dashboard for your second screen. Open a status dashboard at 8:30 with Every Day. It arrives in a separate window that you can drag to the other screen.
• An online class. Use Open, then close to open the class page in a new window at 14:00 and close it at 15:00.

Good to know about opening in a new window

• The new window is a normal window. For a private window, use Open in incognito mode instead.
• Whether the window comes to the front depends on the Auto Focus Tab switch for the schedule. Auto Focus Tab is part of Premium.
• Run now in the schedule list opens the new window straight away. The schedule keeps its normal timing.
• Your computer must be awake and the browser must be running at the scheduled time. Power Mode keeps the computer awake.
