Every few minutes
Repeat every 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or enter your own number of minutes.
Repeat a schedule every few minutes to keep a page fresh, check something often, or limit how long a site stays open. Choose every 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes, or type any number of minutes you like.
How repeating every few minutes works
The Select Frequency list has four fixed choices, Every Minute, Every 5 Minute, Every 10 Minute and Every 30 Minute. For any other number, pick Custom Minute and enter the minutes yourself.
What happens next depends on the Schedule Type.
- Open a website opens the link each time the interval passes. The first run comes one interval after you save.
- Close matching tabs closes each matching tab once it has been open for that many minutes.
- Open, then close does both. With Custom Minute you can set one number for opening and another for closing.
How to repeat a schedule every few minutes
- Click the Tab Scheduler icon in the toolbar and choose Settings.
- Enter the address in Website Link and, if you like, a Title.
- In Select Frequency, choose Every Minute, Every 5 Minute, Every 10 Minute, Every 30 Minute or Custom Minute.
- Choose a Schedule Type.
- For Custom Minute, type a number in Open Minute, Close Minute or both. The fixed choices need no extra fields.
- Under More options, tick Refresh tab if URL is already open if you want one tab that reloads instead of a new tab each time.
- Click Save Schedule.
When to use repeating every few minutes
- Keep an orders page fresh. Schedule shop.example.com/orders with Every 5 Minute and tick Refresh tab if URL is already open. The same tab reloads every 5 minutes.
- Limit time on video sites. Choose Close matching tabs, enter youtube.com, pick Custom Minute and type 20 in Close Minute. Tick URL Filtering so every YouTube page matches. Each YouTube tab now closes 20 minutes after it opens.
- A break reminder. Pick Every 30 Minute for a stretching page and tick Just remind me (don't open the tab). Every 30 minutes you get a notification with Open now and Skip.
Good to know about repeating every few minutes
- Custom Minute needs at least 1 minute.
- Without Refresh tab if URL is already open, every run opens a new tab. At short intervals, that adds up quickly.
- A close schedule also counts tabs you opened yourself, as long as their link matches.
- The count starts when you save the schedule. If you restart the browser, it starts again from when the browser opens.
- Warn me 60 seconds before closing works with fixed times, not with minute intervals.
- Schedules do not run while the computer sleeps. Turn on Power Mode (keep computer awake) if they need to keep going.
- Want a less regular rhythm? Try Random Minute. Need something faster? Custom Second goes down to 5 seconds.
Questions and answers
What is the shortest interval in minutes?
"Every Minute" runs once a minute, and "Custom Minute" accepts any number from 1 upward. For shorter gaps, use "Custom Second".
Why do I get a new tab every time?
Each run opens the website in a new tab by default. Tick "Refresh tab if URL is already open" under "More options" to reload the existing tab instead.
When does a close schedule close the tab?
With a minute interval, each matching tab closes once it has been open for the number of minutes you chose. This also applies to matching tabs you opened yourself.
Does the timer keep running when the browser is closed?
No. Schedules run only while the browser is open, and the count starts again when the browser starts.
