Notifications
See a notification when a scheduled tab opens or closes, or turn it off for schedules you want to run quietly.
Tab Scheduler can tell you each time it opens or closes a tab for you. A short notification names the website, so a page never appears or disappears without you knowing why. Notifications are on by default, and you can turn them off for any schedule you want to run quietly.
How schedule notifications work
When a schedule opens a website, you get a notification from Tab Scheduler. It shows the schedule's title and description if you added them, then the website link and a note that it is open. When a schedule closes a tab, the notification says the link was closed instead.
You also see a notification when you use Run now, Open All Scheduled Link or Close All Scheduled Link, and when a schedule loads a page with Open URL in Background, where no tab appears.
The setting belongs to each schedule. The Don't notify me when this runs switch sits next to the Save Schedule button in the form. It is off for new schedules, which means notifications are shown. Turn it on and that schedule runs without a notification. In the Scheduled Tab List, a small bell icon under the link marks the schedules that still notify you.
How to turn notifications on or off
- Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
- Fill in a new schedule as usual with the Website Link, Select Frequency, Schedule Type and times. To change an existing schedule, click its pencil icon in the Scheduled Tab List instead.
- Below More options, next to the buttons, find Don't notify me when this runs.
- Leave it off to get notifications, or turn it on to run this schedule quietly.
- Click Save Schedule.
Microsoft Edge on a Mac
If you use Microsoft Edge on a Mac and notifications do not appear, allow them for Edge in your Mac settings.
- Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences or System Settings.
- Select Notifications.
- Select the Microsoft Edge app and turn its notifications on.
When to use schedule notifications
- A schedule opens your stand-up meeting link at 9:55 while you are working in another app. The notification tells you the meeting page is ready.
- A schedule closes youtube.com at 21:00 on school nights. The notification shows your child why the video tab went away.
- A schedule refreshes a sales dashboard every 10 minutes. A notification every 10 minutes is too much, so you turn on Don't notify me when this runs for that schedule only.
Good to know about schedule notifications
- Notifications are set per schedule. To silence several schedules, change the setting on each one.
- The reminder from Just remind me (don't open the tab) and the warning from Warn me 60 seconds before closing are separate. They still appear when Don't notify me when this runs is on.
- A notification appears only when a schedule actually runs. Schedules do not run while your computer sleeps, so turn on Power Mode (keep computer awake) if you rely on them.
- Nothing runs while all schedules are paused, so you get no notifications then either.
Questions and answers
Are notifications on by default?
Yes. Every new schedule shows a notification when it runs unless you turn on Don't notify me when this runs.
Can I turn off notifications for just one schedule?
Yes. The setting is saved with each schedule, so your other schedules keep notifying you.
Why do I still get a reminder after turning notifications off?
Reminders from Just remind me (don't open the tab) and warnings from Warn me 60 seconds before closing are separate options. Turn them off under More options if you do not want them.
I use Edge on a Mac and see no notifications. What can I do?
Open the Apple menu and select System Preferences or System Settings, then Notifications. Select Microsoft Edge and turn its notifications on.
