Power Mode

Stops your computer from going to sleep, so scheduled tabs open and close on time.

Power Mode stops your computer from going to sleep on its own, so Tab Scheduler is still running when a schedule is due. It helps anyone who steps away from the computer but still wants websites to open and close on time, such as a meeting link at 9:55 or a status page that opens every 30 minutes.

How Power Mode works

When a computer sleeps or suspends, the browser stops too. No schedule can open or close a tab until the computer wakes up again. Power Mode prevents the computer from going to sleep while you have work scheduled.

When Power Mode is on and you have at least one active schedule waiting to run, Tab Scheduler asks the browser to keep the system awake. When nothing is waiting to run, it drops that request, and your computer follows its normal sleep settings again.

By default, Power Mode keeps only the computer awake. The screen can still turn off, and your tabs still open and close while it is dark. If the screen must stay on as well, for example on a team display, turn on the extra option Keep the screen on too. It uses more battery, so turn it on only when you need it.

Power Mode is one setting for the whole extension. You do not need to turn it on for each schedule.

How to turn on Power Mode

  1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
  2. At the top of the settings page, click the menu button with three dots.
  3. Switch on Power Mode (keep computer awake).
  4. If the screen also needs to stay on, switch on Keep the screen on too in the same menu.
  5. Check that the schedules you rely on are switched on. Each schedule has a Schedule enabled switch in its form.

To let your computer sleep normally again, open the same menu and switch Power Mode off.

When to use Power Mode

  • Morning stand-up. A schedule opens your meeting link at 9:55 every weekday. You leave your desk at 9:30, and Power Mode keeps the computer awake, so the link is open when you get back.
  • Regular check-ins. A status page opens every 30 minutes while you work. With Power Mode on, the computer does not fall asleep between runs, so none of them are missed.
  • Team display. A screen in the office opens a dashboard every hour. Here you turn on both Power Mode and Keep the screen on too, so the page stays visible to everyone.

Good to know about Power Mode

  • Your browser must be running for any schedule to work. Power Mode keeps the computer awake, but it cannot start the browser for you.
  • If the computer still goes to sleep or suspend, schedules cannot run until it wakes up.
  • For times when the computer was off or the browser was closed, the schedule option Run on browser start if missed at scheduled time can open the missed tab when the browser starts again.
  • If you used Power Mode before version 2.0.13, Keep the screen on too starts switched on, so the screen behaves as it did before. Switch it off if you only need the computer to stay awake.
  • Power Mode and Keep the screen on too are free on every plan.
