Keep the screen on
An extra Power Mode option for when the screen must stay on too. It uses more battery.
Keep the screen on too is an extra option that sits under Power Mode. Power Mode stops your computer from going to sleep so your schedules can run. This option also stops the screen from turning off, for times when someone needs to see the page that Tab Scheduler opened.
How Keep the screen on works
With only Power Mode (keep computer awake) switched on, Tab Scheduler asks the browser to keep the system awake. The screen can still dim or turn off as usual, and your tabs still open and close on time while it is dark.
When you also switch on Keep the screen on too, Tab Scheduler asks the browser to keep the display awake instead. The screen stays on, and the computer stays awake as well.
The option only works together with Power Mode. If Power Mode is off, switching this option on has no effect until you turn Power Mode on.
How to keep the screen on
- Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your toolbar and choose Settings.
- At the top of the settings page, click the menu button with three dots.
- Switch on Power Mode (keep computer awake) if it is not on already.
- Switch on Keep the screen on too, just below it.
- When you no longer need the screen on, switch Keep the screen on too off again. Power Mode stays on and keeps the computer awake.
When to use Keep the screen on
- An office screen shows a sales dashboard that Tab Scheduler opens at 8:00 every weekday. With this option on, the screen does not go dark halfway through the morning.
- A reception computer opens a visitor sign-in page at 9:00 and closes it at 17:00. Keeping the screen on means visitors always see the page.
- You only need a report page to open at 7:00 so it is ready when you arrive. Here Power Mode alone is enough, and you can leave this option off to save battery.
Good to know about Keep the screen on
- Keeping the screen on uses more battery. On a laptop, it is best used while plugged in.
- Tab Scheduler cannot run schedules while the computer is in sleep or suspend mode. Power Mode helps prevent that, with or without this option.
- If you used Power Mode before this option was added, it starts switched on, so your screen behaves as it did before. Switch it off if you only need the computer to stay awake.
- This option is saved on this computer only. Power Mode itself is saved to your account when you are logged in, but this extra option is not.
- Both options are free on every plan.
Questions and answers
Do I need Keep the screen on too for my schedules to run?
No. Power Mode alone keeps the computer awake, and tabs open and close even when the screen is off. Turn this option on only if the screen must stay on as well.
Does it work without Power Mode?
No. It only takes effect while Power Mode (keep computer awake) is switched on.
Why does it use more battery?
The screen stays lit instead of turning off, so the computer uses more power and a laptop battery runs down faster.
Where do I find this option?
Open the settings page, click the menu button with three dots at the top, and you will find it just below Power Mode.
