Catch up on missed schedules

If your computer was off or the browser was closed at the scheduled time, the tab opens when the browser starts again.

If your computer was off or the browser was closed at the scheduled time, Tab Scheduler can still open the website when you start the browser again. Turn this on for schedules you do not want to miss, like a daily report or a weekly timesheet.

How catching up on missed schedules works

The option is called Run on browser start if missed at scheduled time. When the browser starts, Tab Scheduler looks at every schedule that has it turned on. If today is a scheduled day, the open time has already passed and the schedule has not run yet today, it opens the website right away.

It also checks again from time to time while the browser is running. So if the computer was asleep at the scheduled time, the website opens a little later instead of being skipped.

A missed run is only caught up on the same day. If you miss a daily 9:00 schedule and do not start the browser until the next morning, the missed run is skipped. Each schedule still runs only once on each scheduled day.

When to use catching up on missed schedules

  • Morning report. A daily schedule opens reports.example.com at 9:00. You start your laptop at 9:40, and the report opens as soon as the browser starts.
  • Weekly timesheet. A weekly schedule opens the timesheet page on Friday at 16:00. You closed the browser early that day, and when you open it again at 18:00, the page opens.
  • Monthly bills. A monthly schedule opens your billing page on day 1 at 8:00. If you only start the computer at noon on the 1st, the page still opens.

Good to know about catching up on missed schedules

  • It works with One Time, Every Day, Every Week, Every Month and Every Year. You can tick the box for other frequencies, but it has no effect there.
  • Only the opening is caught up. A missed closing time is not run later.
  • For a one-time schedule, the catch-up only happens on its own date.
  • The schedule must be turned on, and Tab Scheduler must not be paused.
  • Your other options still apply. With Just remind me (don't open the tab), you get the reminder instead of the tab.
  • To avoid missed runs during sleep in the first place, turn on Power Mode (keep computer awake).

Questions and answers

Will it open schedules I missed yesterday?

No. A missed run is only caught up on the same day. Runs missed on earlier days are skipped.

Can a schedule open twice on the same day?

No. Each schedule runs at most once per scheduled day, whether it ran on time or was caught up later.

Which frequencies does it work with?

"One Time", "Every Day", "Every Week", "Every Month" and "Every Year". It does not apply to minute, second, hourly or random schedules, or to "On Browser Open".

Does it also catch up missed closing times?

No. It only opens websites. Close schedules and the closing part of "Open, then close" are not caught up.
