One-time schedules

Open or close a website just once, on a specific date and time.

A one-time schedule opens or closes a website once, on the date and at the time you choose. It suits things that happen a single time, like a webinar, an exam, a ticket sale or a deadline, so you do not have to keep an eye on the clock.

How a one-time schedule works

You pick a date and a time, and Tab Scheduler sets a timer in your browser. When that moment comes, it opens the website, closes every tab that matches the link, or does both at two different moments. After that, the schedule does not run again.

Before it runs, the Scheduled Tab List shows the planned date and time. A schedule that opens a website also shows a Next run line. Once the time has passed, the schedule stays in the list, and a one-time schedule that opens a website shows Time Expired.

How to set up a one-time schedule

  1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in the toolbar and choose Settings.
  2. Enter the address in Website Link and, if you like, a Title.
  3. Leave Select Frequency on One Time. It is the first choice in the list.
  4. In Schedule Type, choose Open a website, Close matching tabs or Open, then close.
  5. To open the website, fill in Open Time and Open Date. To close tabs, fill in Close Time and Close Date. For Open, then close, fill in all four.
  6. Under More options, tick any extras you want, such as Open URL In New Window or Warn me 60 seconds before closing.
  7. Click Save Schedule.
1One Time, 2the time, 3the date. The schedule runs once.

When to use a one-time schedule

  • A webinar. The session starts at 15:00 on 14 November. Choose Open, then close, set the open time to 14:55 and the close time to 16:30 on the same date. The link is waiting for you, and the tab closes when the session is over.
  • A ticket sale. Tickets go on sale at 10:00 on a Saturday. Schedule the shop page, such as tickets.example.com, to open at 9:58 that day so you are ready on time.
  • A deadline. You want to stop work on a test site at 18:00 on Friday. Choose Close matching tabs with that date and time, and every tab that matches the link closes at 18:00.

Good to know about a one-time schedule

  • Pick a date and time in the future. If the time has already passed when you save, the schedule will not run.
  • The open date and the close date are separate, so a website can open on one day and close on another.
  • To use a one-time schedule again, edit it and choose a new date and time.
  • Past one-time schedules stay in your list and still count toward the 5 schedules on the Free plan. Delete the ones you no longer need, or upgrade to Premium for unlimited schedules.
  • Your browser must be running and the computer awake at the scheduled time. Turn on Power Mode (keep computer awake) to stop the computer from going to sleep.
  • If the browser might be closed at that time, tick Run on browser start if missed at scheduled time under More options. For a one-time schedule, the missed website opens only if you start the browser later on the same day.

Questions and answers

What does "Time Expired" mean?

It marks a one-time schedule whose date and time have already passed. The schedule stays in your list until you edit it or delete it.

Can a website open on one day and close on another?

Yes. Choose "Open, then close" and set a different "Open Date" and "Close Date". Each part runs once, at its own date and time.

What happens if my computer is off at the scheduled time?

The schedule cannot run while the computer is off or the browser is closed. If you ticked "Run on browser start if missed at scheduled time", the website opens when you start the browser later that same day.

Does a one-time schedule delete itself after it runs?

No. It stays in your "Scheduled Tab List", so you can give it a new date and time or delete it.
