Every few seconds
Repeat as often as every 5 seconds. Intervals under 60 seconds are experimental.
With Custom Second, a schedule can repeat as often as every 5 seconds. Use it when minutes are too slow, for example to reload a page that changes all the time. Intervals under 60 seconds are experimental.
How repeating every few seconds works
Choose Custom Second in Select Frequency and type a number of seconds. With Open a website, the link opens again each time that many seconds pass. The first run comes one interval after you save.
With Close matching tabs, each tab that matches the link closes once it has been open for that many seconds. Open, then close lets you set one number for opening and another for closing.
A small warning icon sits next to the seconds box. It reminds you that this feature is experimental and may not work correctly below 60 seconds.
How to repeat a schedule every few seconds
- Click the Tab Scheduler icon in the toolbar and choose Settings.
- Enter the address in Website Link and, if you like, a Title.
- In Select Frequency, choose Custom Second.
- Choose a Schedule Type.
- Type the seconds in Open Second, Close Second or both. The lowest value is 5.
- Under More options, tick Refresh tab if URL is already open so the same tab reloads instead of new tabs piling up.
- Click Save Schedule.
When to use repeating every few seconds
- Live scores. Reload a match page every 90 seconds. Set Open Second to 90 and tick Refresh tab if URL is already open.
- A status board. Keep status.example.com up to date on a shared screen by reloading it every 120 seconds.
- Short visits only. Choose Close matching tabs for a site that keeps opening extra pages and set Close Second to 45. Each matching tab closes 45 seconds after it opens. As this is under 60 seconds, test it first.
Good to know about repeating every few seconds
- The minimum is 5 seconds. Tab Scheduler will not save a smaller number.
- Values under 60 seconds are experimental. If timing matters, use 60 seconds or more, or one of the minute frequencies.
- Without Refresh tab if URL is already open, each run opens a new tab. A few seconds apart, that means many tabs very quickly.
- Warn me 60 seconds before closing is not available for this frequency.
- The browser must be open and the computer awake. Power Mode (keep computer awake) stops the computer from going to sleep.
Questions and answers
What is the shortest interval?
5 seconds. Tab Scheduler will not save a smaller number in "Open Second" or "Close Second".
Why are intervals under 60 seconds experimental?
Very short intervals may not work correctly. Test your schedule first, and use 60 seconds or more when timing matters.
How do I stop new tabs from piling up?
Tick "Refresh tab if URL is already open" under "More options". The existing tab then reloads instead of a new one opening each time.
How do I stop a seconds schedule quickly?
Turn the schedule off with its switch in the "Scheduled Tab List". You can also press Alt+Shift+P to pause all schedules at once.
