Duplicate schedules

Copy a schedule in one click, or turn an open schedule into a matching close schedule.

Many schedules are nearly the same, such as one website on a different day, or a page that should open and later close. Tab Scheduler gives you two ways to copy a schedule so you do not have to fill in the form from the start. Duplicate Schedule makes an exact copy, and Duplicate as close schedule turns an open schedule into a matching close schedule.

How duplicating a schedule works

Duplicate Schedule

The copy icon in the Action column saves an exact copy of the schedule straight away, with the same link, timing, options and on or off state. The copy appears at the top of the Scheduled Tab List and is briefly highlighted. You can then edit it to change what you need.

Duplicate as close schedule

This orange icon appears only on schedules that open a website. It does not save anything on its own. Instead, it fills in the form at the top of the page as a new schedule with Schedule Type set to Close matching tabs. The website, title, description and frequency come from the original. The close time, date, days or minutes start with the original's open values, and URL Filtering is ticked so the close also catches tabs whose address contains the link. Nothing is saved until you click Save Schedule.

How to duplicate a schedule

  1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
  2. Find the schedule in the Scheduled Tab List.
  3. For an exact copy, click the copy icon in the Action column. Hover over it first to see Duplicate Schedule. The copy is saved at once.
  4. Click the pencil icon on the new copy, change the time, days or link, and click Save Schedule.
  5. For a matching close schedule, click the orange icon on an open schedule instead. Its name is Duplicate as close schedule. The form fills in at the top of the page.
  6. Change the Close Time to when the tab should close, check the options under More options, and click Save Schedule.

When to use duplicating a schedule

  • A schedule opens your team meeting link every Monday at 9:55. Duplicate it and change the copy to Thursday at 13:55 for your second weekly meeting.
  • A schedule opens an online class on example.com at 18:00 every day. Use Duplicate as close schedule, set the close time to 19:00 and save. The class page now opens at 18:00 and closes at 19:00.
  • You made a one-time schedule for a webinar. Duplicate it for next month's session and change only the date.

Good to know about duplicating a schedule

  • Until you edit it, the copy from Duplicate Schedule runs at the same time as the original. Change it soon or switch it off.
  • Tab Scheduler does not allow two schedules for the same website with the same repeating interval. An exact copy of an Every Minute, Every 5 Minute, Every 10 Minute, Every 30 Minute, Every Hour, Custom Minute or Custom Second schedule is refused with a message that the same timing already exists.
  • Every copy counts as a schedule. On the Free plan you can have up to 5, and both options stop at that limit with a message asking you to delete one or upgrade.
  • Schedules marked Locked cannot be copied.
  • If the original uses On Browser Open, the close copy starts as One Time, so pick a date and time before you save.

Questions and answers

Is the copy saved straight away?

With Duplicate Schedule, yes. With Duplicate as close schedule, no. The form fills in and nothing is saved until you click Save Schedule.

Why can't I duplicate my Every 10 Minute schedule?

Tab Scheduler does not allow two schedules for the same website with the same repeating interval. Create a new schedule with a different interval or link instead.

Why is URL Filtering already ticked on the close copy?

It is ticked so the close schedule also catches tabs whose address contains the website link. You can untick it before you save.
