Run now

Run an open schedule straight away with all its options. Its normal timing stays the same.

Run now opens a scheduled website straight away, exactly as it would at its scheduled time. Use it to test a new schedule, or when you need the page a little early and do not want to wait.

How Run now works

Every schedule that opens a website has a Run now icon in the Action column of the Scheduled Tab List. It is a blue circle with a play symbol. When you click it, Tab Scheduler opens the website the same way a scheduled run does, so the options you chose still apply.

  • Open URL In New Window opens the website in a new window.
  • Open URL in Background loads the website in the background without opening a tab.
  • Open in incognito mode opens it in a private window.
  • Refresh tab if URL is already open refreshes the open tab instead of adding another one.

If notifications are on for the schedule, you see the usual notification too. If the schedule uses Just remind me (don't open the tab), Run now skips the reminder and opens the tab.

The schedule keeps its normal timing. If you run a daily 9:00 schedule at 8:30, it still runs again at 9:00 as planned.

How to run a schedule now

  1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
  2. Find the schedule in the Scheduled Tab List. Its Schedule Type must be Open a website or Open, then close.
  3. Make sure the switch in the Status column shows On.
  4. In the Action column, hover over the play icon to see Run now, then click it.
  5. The website opens with the schedule's options.

When to use Run now

  • You have just made a schedule that opens a stand-up meeting link at 9:55 in a new window. Click Run now to check that the link works and opens the way you expect.
  • Your news site opens at 8:00 every day, but you sit down at 7:45. Click Run now to read it early. With Refresh tab if URL is already open turned on, the 8:00 run refreshes that tab instead of opening a second copy.
  • You set up a schedule for example.com with Open in incognito mode. One click on Run now shows you that a private window opens.

Good to know about Run now

  • Schedules that only close tabs have no Run now icon. To close matching tabs straight away, use Close All Scheduled Link.
  • Nothing happens if the schedule is switched off or marked Locked.
  • For Open, then close schedules, Run now only opens the website. The tab still closes at the usual close time.
  • Incognito schedules need Allow in Incognito turned on for Tab Scheduler in your browser's extension settings. If it is off, you get a notification asking you to turn it on.
  • To run every open schedule at once, use Open All Scheduled Link above the list.
