Import and export (CSV)

Back up your schedules or move them to another browser with a CSV file. Sample files show the format.

Import and export lets you save all your schedules in a CSV file and load them again later. Use it to keep a backup, to move your schedules to another browser or computer, or to add many schedules at once from a spreadsheet. It is part of the Premium plan.

How import and export works

Export saves every schedule in your list to one CSV file. Each row is one schedule, with its website link, frequency, schedule type, times, dates and days, title, description, on or off status, and the options you ticked under More options.

Import reads a CSV file and adds its rows to the schedules you already have. Nothing in your current list is replaced. Tab Scheduler checks each row first and skips rows it cannot use, such as a website link that is not valid or a date or time it cannot read. When it finishes, a message shows three numbers, the total records processed, the duplicate or invalid records, and the imported records.

Sample file downloads an example CSV with a few filled-in rows, so you can see how each column is written. There is a sample file for each of the 43 languages, and you get the one for the language you chose in Tab Scheduler.

How to import and export schedules

  1. Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your toolbar and choose Settings.
  2. Find the Import/Export menu above the Scheduled Tab List.
  3. To make a backup, choose Export. A CSV file downloads and you see the message Schedules exported successfully.
  4. To see the format, choose Sample file and open it in a spreadsheet app.
  5. To add schedules, use an exported file as a template, because its column names always match your language. Keep the first row, delete the rows of schedules you already have, add one new schedule per row, and save the file as CSV.
  6. Choose Import, pick your CSV file, and read the result message. The new schedules appear in the list, and rows with the status Active are switched on.

When to use import and export

  • Before you reset your browser or move to a new computer, export your schedules. After you install Tab Scheduler again, import the file and your list is back.
  • A teacher has 15 class links that open at different times on different weekdays. Instead of filling in the form 15 times, they add the links, times and days to the CSV file and import it once.
  • You built a set of morning schedules for a shared team routine, such as opening the same reports every day. Export them and send the file to a colleague, who imports it in their own Tab Scheduler.

Good to know about import and export

  • Import and export are part of Premium, together with unlimited schedules and Auto Focus Tab.
  • Column names and values such as Active, Inactive, Yes, No and frequency names like Every Day are read in the language selected in Tab Scheduler. To import a file made in another language, switch Tab Scheduler to that language first.
  • If the column names in the first row do not match, nothing is imported and you see Please upload valid format.
  • Files exported from older versions of Tab Scheduler, which kept open and close schedules in separate files, can still be imported.
  • The browser allows up to 500 active schedules. If a large import takes you over that limit, some tabs may not open as expected.

Questions and answers

Does importing replace my current schedules?

No. Imported rows are added to the schedules you already have. If the file also contains schedules that are already in your list, you can end up with copies, so import only the rows you need.

Why do I see Please upload valid format?

The first row of the file must have the column names Tab Scheduler expects, in the language you selected. Export your schedules once and compare the first row of that file with yours.

Is import and export free?

No. Import and export are part of the Premium plan. The Free plan includes up to 5 schedules and every other scheduling feature.

Which file should I use as a template?

Your own export is the safest template, because its column names always match the language you use in Tab Scheduler. The Sample file is useful for seeing how each column is filled in.
