Turn schedules on and off
Switch off a single schedule without deleting it, and turn it back on whenever you need it.
Sometimes you want a schedule to stop for a while without losing the way you set it up. Tab Scheduler lets you switch off a single schedule and keep all its settings, then switch it back on whenever you need it. This helps during holidays, exam weeks or any break from your usual routine.
How turning schedules on and off works
Every schedule is either on or off. You can change this in two places.
- In the Scheduled Tab List, the Status column has a switch that shows On or Off. A click saves the change straight away.
- In the schedule form, the Schedule enabled switch sits next to the Save Schedule button. It is on by default for new schedules.
When you switch a schedule off, Tab Scheduler clears its timers, so it no longer opens or closes any tabs. The link, times and options stay saved. When you switch it back on, Tab Scheduler sets up the timers again from those saved settings.
A schedule that is off is also skipped by Run now, Open All Scheduled Link and Close All Scheduled Link, and it is not included in the count on the extension icon.
How to turn a schedule on or off
- Click the Tab Scheduler icon in your browser toolbar and choose Settings.
- Find the schedule in the Scheduled Tab List.
- Click the switch in the Status column so it shows Off.
- When you need the schedule again, click the switch so it shows On.
To save a new schedule that starts switched off, turn off Schedule enabled before you click Save Schedule. You can also click the pencil icon of an existing schedule and change Schedule enabled in the form.
When to use turning schedules on and off
- You are on holiday for two weeks. Switch off the schedules that open your work tools at 8:55 each weekday, and switch them back on when you return.
- A schedule closes youtube.com at 21:00 on school nights. Switch it off for the summer break and on again when school starts.
- You plan a new morning routine that starts next Monday. Save the schedule today with Schedule enabled turned off, then switch it on over the weekend.
Good to know about turning schedules on and off
- Switching off one schedule is different from pausing everything. To stop all schedules at once, use the Pause or resume all schedules switch or press Alt+Shift+P.
- A schedule that is off still counts toward the 5 schedules allowed on the Free plan. Delete schedules you no longer need if you reach the limit.
- With two or more schedules, click the Status heading to sort the list so all the schedules that are off sit together.
- Switching a One Time schedule back on does not give it a new time. If its time has passed, edit it and choose a new date.
Questions and answers
Do I lose my settings when I switch a schedule off?
No. The link, times and options stay saved, and the schedule runs again as normal once you switch it back on.
What is the difference between switching off a schedule and pausing all schedules?
Switching off affects only that schedule. Pausing stops every schedule at once and leaves each schedule's own switch as it was.
Does a schedule that is off count toward the Free plan limit?
Yes. The Free plan allows up to 5 schedules, whether they are on or off.
